Introduction

It is estimated that there are over five billion pieces of plastics floating in the oceans (Andrady, 2015). The materials do not decompose and continue to increase in the oceans, especially the beaches. Moreover, it is estimated that billions of plastics find their way to the waters, which constitute to 40% of the ocean’s surface (Andrady, 2015). Additionally, in the years to come, scientist and environmentalist project that the ocean will contain more plastic material by weight than fish (McMaster, 2018). The materials have hazardous effects on the marine life and the environment. The majority of the plastics found in the oceans are bottles that are largely produced by the world’s leading soft drinks company, Coca-Cola. This has become a controversial issue that has been widely debated in trying to find possible solutions, but at the end, they all point fingers to the company and hold it responsible for the situation. It is upon Coca-Cola to implement various strategies to deal with the plastic floating issue since if it is not controlled, it may lead to undesirable effects, not only to the marine life but to also humans.
