Students will select a current Canadian nonprofit issue relevant to public policy and/or governance (for example: the role of nonprofits in poverty reduction (or some other policy issue); accountability challenges for nonprofits; what kind of advocacy role should charitable organizations be allowed to play; is Corporate Social Responsibility (CRS) a positive force for society; accountability challengesof nonprofits; tax exemptions and nonprofit organizations; can charities replace the role of the state in providing human welfare, etc.). The idea is to provide a substantive examination and analysis of a current pressing policy relevant nonprofit issue in Canadian. In choosing and writing your paper be aware of and address a variety points. These could include some or all of the following: 1)Broad issue area under consideration;2)Specific policy problem needing address (be specific as to the nature of the issue/ reform to be addressed – narrow your topic to manageable proportions); 3)How does this issue impact the nonprofit sector or components of the nonprofit sector;4)Explanation of policy and/or political importance of this issue at this time;5)Identification of which level(s) of government that this issue most concerns(broadly speaking);6)Offer a detailed outline of the various important aspects/dimensions of the issue; 7)What is the evidence, pro & con, of the importance of moving on this issue;8)Which groups/organizations are in the forefront pushing for action on this issue? Which groups or interests are resistant of change?; and,9)In your own considered assessment what is the case for addressing this issue.
