The structure of an organization can affect its performance. There is a close linkage between structure and other facets of an organization such as its control system, career and reward system, information systems, etc. The case shows the role that structure plays in shaping the identity of organizational members and the political alignments within the firm. The case gives students a chance to put themselves in the shoes of a young MBA working in a start-up setting and allows them to grapple with what they would do differently; particularly if they would also have such substantial structural changes as a means of intervention to influence the firms’ performance.
