On 18 – 19 October, Trinidad and Tobago experienced torrential rainfall, according to Government officials. Approximately 80% of the country has been affected by flooding, communities, main roads and public services were affected. On 20 October, the Government of Trinidad and Tobago activated its National Emergency Operations Centre and began assessments. Flooding has impacted 100,000 to 150,000 people. There are reports that 800 people sought shelter in collective centres during the peak of the emergency, people are however beginning to return home.” The response will be in the form of an executive brief intended to
outline:
a. The background and context of the topic or incident
b. Its significance to disaster health management
c. The key issues of strategic significance
d. Recommendations and strategies for improvement.
NB: An executive brief is a means of providing high-level advice to senior executives or government Ministers. You may use any structure you are familiar with but if you do not have an alternative structure then simply
structure it around the above points; Background, significance, issues and recommendations.
Your response will be expected to be strategic in its approach and to demonstrate your understanding of the principles of leadership and strategic lessons to be learned. Your response should be within the limits of 2500-3000 words. If you fall outside these limits, it is likely you will lose marks for a lack of information at one extreme or for not being clear and concise at the other.
