Description

Analyse the text in the light of the following:
1. Identify the theologian’s rationale for his chosen starting point, i.e., consider here the assumptions that the theologian makes that determine the way that he goes about the task of theologizing (for example, what presuppositions do they have about of the nature of revelation and of theological language?) (300 words)
2. What place and use does the theologian give to the traditional theological sources (scripture, tradition, experience, reason)? This will require you to identify which of these have been prioritized (i.e. which ones do they think is the most significant) and explain why (this will follow from the assumptions that they bring to the task that you have already identified in 1.) and how each of these are used (for example, can you identify the hermeneutic that they employ for interpreting the scriptures? Do they draw on tradition uncritically? Are they a biblical or a confessional theologian? Does the theologian think that experience is the basis of theological reflection or more of a medium in which theological reflection takes place? How culturally aware and relevant do you think the theologian is? Are they politically and socially concerned? Does the theologian use reason in a speculative way? What place does philosophy have in their theologizing? Are they at ease with paradox? Do they insist on rational coherence or do they allow for assertions that seem to transcend or even contradict reason?) (500 words)
3. Reflect on the significance of the author’s theological method and prioritizing of theological sources for the shaping of their theological conclusions. Here you will need to identify some key theological tenets or conclusions of the text and discuss how you think that the analysis that you have provided on method and sources in 1 and 2 provides insight into how and why the theologian has arrived at these conclusions. (200 words)
