Goal of this assignment is to integrate cultural nuances, expectations, and perspectives into a final paper. You will present a current diversity-related situation or dilemma; compare and contrast the cultures involved in the situation; provide a historical perspective and analyze the contributing factors to the current state of the situation. You will then interpret the effects of the situation on the cultures involved, provide evidence in favor of and opposed to each side of the situation. Finally, you will assess your beliefs and perspectives regarding the situation or dilemma and identify strategies for building inclusion by synthesizing the varying perspectives.
In the twenty-first century, the society is evolving, and it has become more diverse in ethnicity, gender, culture, religion, age, and education. Today, diversity is a dynamic that has influenced different aspects of the society. According to Heilman (2012), there is a substantial rise in the number of women and other minority groups in the community that has brought a cultural dilemma as the minorities are now demanding an equal opportunity to the other teams. This present paper addresses a gender equality cultural dilemma where I focus more on the current opportunities that women receive in the society. In recent years, developed countries such as the United States have advanced in the areas of gender equality to include women who are the gender minority group into significant societal operations such as sports, education, health, religion, and workplaces. However, there are still several countries that do not support gender equality.
Women are an essential group in the society as they represent a significant number of workforce. Organizations and multinational enterprises are expanding, and they are aiming to have a diverse workforce by including qualified women in their structures. However, these businesses are often faced with a dilemma especially when they expand their operations into countries or societies where the female gender face religious, cultural, societal, and even legal discrimination. Jayachandran (2015) argues that gender equality is mostly a cultural issue but has also received criticism from various religious groups such as the Muslim religion. These cultural and religious beliefs have existed for an extended period, and it has made it extremely difficult to address the issue. However, I do not believe that it is impossible to change these views and promote gender equality especially among cultures that are against women having the same opportunities as men. I chose this situation to understand how such a cultural, societal, legal, and religious dilemma can be addressed and instill the principles of gender equality and eliminate gender discrimination in countries, areas, religions, and societies where the female gender is not respected and protected to achieve global gender equality in future.
