Project managers should set clear expectations and goals, and how each member is expected to contribute to the goals. Unlike in an office setup where workers can walk physically into an office and see goal statements on the office walls and also attend team focus meetings, virtual set up is quite different.
Virtual team employees connect through electronic forms (video conferences, email and instant messaging). The project managers, therefore, need to have an understanding of specific communication needs of each member to ensure efficient performance.
The project manager should adjust and be able to motivate the workers. Since work done is out of sight, the possibility of less focus on projects is possible.
