Is ethics really important for technical writing? Why?
Ethics is very important in our everyday life. If we recall the purpose of technical writing which is to communicate and convey information we can relate it with ethics. For example; one cannot write things in a user’s manual which is persuasive but not true. That would be ethically wrong and at the same time, it might hurt the customer.
Respond: Another example is emails, a very common source of communication especially in the workplace but at the same time, it can result in ethical and legal issues. Technical Communication; chapter 14 ( Email and text messages), pages(315-316).The company owns the employee’s email address and hence possess the right to track it. One needs to be careful when using “reply all ” and ” forwarding” options since the original sender might not have wanted anyone else to read the email.
