HISTORY OF WORLD ARCHITECTURE II
(ARCH 3305)
RESEARCH PAPER BRIEF
Students will write a thesis-drive research paper with four full pages of text
(minimum) supported by scholarly secondary research and illustrated with diagrams, images,
etc. that help support the thesis. Students may select an architectural topic of their choice from
the 15th century to the mid-20th century: an architect, an architectural movement, a building,
etc. The research paper should be thesis-driven (that is, an argumentative research paper).
Students should include a thesis in in the introductory paragraphs and topic sentences in the
paragraphs in the body of the research paper to help develop the thesis. Students should use
scholarly evidence to help support their thesis. At minimum, students are required to use three
scholarly research sources as the foundation of their research paper. Before committing to a
topic, students should investigate whether they can find three scholarly research sources on their
topic. If not, students should select a different topic.
