You need to choose a genetically modified organism or GMO . However, you cannot choose corn or soybeans.
-Describe the process of making the GMO for the organism you choose. What is the purpose of making that GMO? What are its advantages and its drawbacks to human health, the society and the environment?
-What do people think about GMO in general and what is your opinion about it? Is there any issue about patenting a gene?
-Make sure you list all your sources.
The debate surrounding the use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) has continued to make news headlines. However, whether GMO foods are actually healthy for human consumption or not, their production has intensified over the last decade. Many countries have outright banned GMOs while other have restricted them. Conversely, in Europe, the United States and Canada, the use of GMOs is widely embraced. This paper will explore the process and purpose of making genetically modified cows to enhance milk production. It will also look at the advantages and drawbacks to the environment, human health and the environment as well as any patent issue associated with such a technology.
Scientists have made two breakthroughs through successful creation of a calf whose milk can be consumed by individuals suffering from intolerance of lactose. The second breakthrough is that of an animal whose milk has a high concentration of healthy fat, which is found in fish. These have been achieved by genetically altering the cows in an effort to ensure that drink and food products from them are healthier. These technological advancements have not, however, come without criticisms. Many anti-GMO Crusaders have raised issues with the safety of the GMOs’ milk. Their concerns have been aggravated by claims from Chinese scientists that they have succeeded in introducing genes from humans into 300 dairy cows with the aim of producing the same human breast milk properties in 2011 (Gray 1).
