Proposal for Argumentative Essay

Final paper topics require approval in this class. The Final Paper Proposal will function to allow students to turn in a brief (about 1-2 page) topic/rationale that will be turned in to me. If the proposal is approved, points will be given. If the proposal is not approved, a rewrite is allowed after a one-on-one discussion with me. Points for the proposal are all or nothing, so as long as approval is given (on either attempt), so will the points.
The proposal requires both parts to receive approval: A Topic and a Rationale. The topic should be pretty self-explanatory, but the rationale is especially important. The proposal will only be complete after a brief explanation of why the topic was chosen, how you intend to conduct your research, what types of research you have found/plan on finding, and why this particular argument is valuable to either your major or academia in general. Prove to me that there is work to be done on your topic, and that that work is worth it. Try to avoid overly cliché topics for your final paper (abortion, gun control, lowering the drinking age, legalizing marijuana, assisted suicide, capital punishment, bullying).
