TASK TWO:  YOUR LEADERSHIP PRACTICES ANALYSIS
Your Leadership Style and Practices
A1. & A1a.  Complete and reflect on the “Seven Habits Profile”
This section is all about you!  You will have the opportunity to reflect on your leadership style and practices.  Your first step is to take the Seven Habits Profile.  To access the profile, open Taskstream, in the lower left corner after the task instructions you want to open the attached file.

After you have completed the profile, save your results.  You will upload a completed Seven Habits Profile into Taskstream when you submit your final paper.

Reflect on what the results might indicate about your leadership style. You must reflect on a minimum of six of the nine categorical results. Be descriptive and provide examples.

This sub-section should not exceed 3 pages.  Include citations when appropriate following APA guidelines.

A2. Evaluate your leadership practices using a scholarly leadership theory
A note about this section of your paper … similar to section C in task one, you will evaluate your strengths and weaknesses using a scholarly leadership theory.  However, the theory you use for this section needs to be different from the one you used in task one.
A2a.  Evaluate at least three strengths you demonstrate as a leader
Using the principles of the leadership theory you selected for this self-evaluation, identify three strengths you demonstrate as a leader.  Be specific, provide examples, and include the results of your leadership practices.

This Strengths sub-section should not exceed 2 pages.  Include citations when appropriate following APA guidelines.

A2b.  Evaluate at least three weaknesses you demonstrate as a leader
We all have room for improvement.  In this section, discuss at least three areas for improvement specific to your leadership practices.  Remember to base your assessment in part on the leadership theory you selected for this section.  Be specific, provide examples, and include the impact of your weaknesses.

This weaknesses sub-section should not exceed 2 pages.  Include citations when appropriate following APA guidelines.

A2c.  Recommend three theory-based changes that you could make to maximize your success
Now that you have reflected on your current leadership practices, it is time to look forward and plan for your development as a leader.  In this section, you will recommend three specific actions, behaviors, or practices that would help you maximize your success in managing organizations and leading people in the future.  Ideally, your recommendations will address your identified leadership weaknesses.  For each recommendation, include the following; 1) the recommendation and a supporting theory, 2) the performance gap the recommendation will address, and 3) the expected outcome of putting the recommendation into action.

These recommendations need to be theory-based.

This Recommendation sub-section should not exceed 2 pages.  Include citations when appropriate following APA guidelines.

A2d.  Discuss two short-term SMART goals that will help improve your leadership practice
Congratulations!  You are close to completing the BIP2 performance task!  In this final step, you will set SMART goals for yourself.  Goal setting is a critical skill and helps break down a larger initiative into manageable accomplishments while staying accountable and improving performance.

Begin by identifying two skills, behaviors, or practices you would like to master in the next month or so.  Now it is time to take those two goals and apply the SMART criteria. These goals must be leadership development goals

Specific:  Goals should be precise.  For example, I will run four days a week.

Measurable:  A measurement needs to be included to assess the extent to which the goal is accomplished.  For example, I will run for 30 minutes at a time four days a week.

Attainable (Achievable):  Goals should be realistic, challenging, and attainable.

Relevant:  Goals should focus on the end-result. State what results can realistically be achieved, given available resources. They should start with To following by verbs – complete, acquire, increase, decrease, etc.

Time-bound:  Goals specify target dates for duration and completion. Periodicity is required.

For example, One leadership skill I seek to develop is my mentoring skill. It is critical I become a better mentor to my staff to facilitate their professional development. To develop my mentorship skill, I will meet with a senior leader of the organization once a week for an hour over the course of sixteen weeks for mentorship training. I will also task a four-week training course in mentorship from of organizations Skillsoft training database. (Please note you must provide a minimum of two actions for each smart goal).

This example is specific, measurable, attainable, results-oriented, and time-bound.   This goal is more likely to yield success than a generic goal such as I will go to college to develop leadership skills.

Now it is your turn to create two goals that meet the SMART criteria.  Important:  Include why you are setting each goal, how the goal is linked to your leadership development, and what you hope to accomplish as a result of achieving the goals.

A2di. Discuss at least two specific actions you will take to reach each of the SMART goals discussed in part A2d.

This section should not exceed 2 pages.  Include citations when appropriate following APA guidelines.
