For this assignment, you will write a full two-page paper (you can always write more than that) about what you learned from the film and how it compares to what you are reading in your textbook.  Points to consider: Were there things that you did not know that you learned by watching the documentary?  How did the documentary help you visualize the time period?  What did you find interesting?  What did you have problems with?

Why did the Puritans who came to the Boston area in 1630 prove to be more successful long-term than the Pilgrims? 

Questions specific to The Forgotten Plague

How did Americans handle death due to illness?  How did the discovery of germs impact things?  How did they treat most people who contracted Tuberculosis (consumption as they called it)?  How was the cure discovered?  What group was best able to find better treatment? 

You should not use any other sources other than the documentary from the library and your textbook.  If you use your textbook, you must cite it. 

Questions specific to The Patriot

Why do you think Hollywood productions end up changing history to fit their story?  Why did Mel Gipson’s character warn about breaking away from England?  How did they use their tactics (once Mel Gipson’s character starts fighting) to slow down the British?  According to your textbook and lecture notes, why did the British invade the South?  What were the last two battles depicted in the movie and what actually happened in history?  Make sure to cite any source you use here and put everything in your own words. 

Your two-page paper should be double spaced in 12-point font in Times New Roman.  Feel free to write more than two pages to make sure you have satisfied your page length requirement.  Your paper should have normal margins and normal paragraph length (4 to 8 sentences). Your writing should go from the top of the line of the first page of the reflection to the bottom line of the second page of the reflection.  Do not worry about submitting your assignment in MLA format with your name, class name, instructor name, date, etc.  It submits from your account in Canvas.  Turnitin.com is built into Canvas and will check for plagiarism and other students’ submissions.  If you cheat you will get caught.  There is not a time limit when you access the assignment.  Take your time and make sure it is done right.  This will aid in offsetting poor quiz and test grades.  The assignment is worth 75 total points.  If you have any questions, please email me.
